Harbour Shores set to benefit from new Gold Coast light rail extension

We’re excited to share that Harbour Shores is set to benefit from one of the biggest public transport announcements on the Gold Coast in years. The Queensland Government has confirmed a three-station light rail spur line running from Gold Coast University Hospital through to Harbour Town, with a dual light rail and bus station planned on the northeast side of the Harbour Town shopping centre, right next to our development.

The announcement has generated significant media coverage, with Harbour Shores front and centre in the conversation about what better connectivity means for the northern Gold Coast.

Better connectivity, right at our doorstep

The spur line, announced in June as part of the state government’s Gold Coast Transport Plan, will run along Olsen Avenue and Oxley Drive with three new stations at Musgrave Avenue, Labrador and Biggera Waters. Our head of development, Michael Long, has been speaking with media about what the connection means for our community, describing the light rail as a genuine turning point for the whole of the northern Gold Coast. He’s noted the existing bus interchange will move to sit right alongside the new light rail station, creating a convenient link both into the Harbour Town centre and across to the Harbour Shores masterplan, where we’ll ultimately be home to around 4000 residents.

Michael has also pointed to the project as a springboard for future connections further north towards Hope Island and west, with this stage seen as just the first part of a bigger long-term transport vision for the region.

A signal of long-term value

Major infrastructure investment doesn’t just improve day-to-day accessibility, it also tends to strengthen long-term demand for the suburbs it connects. Analysts have consistently found that well-connected locations attract stronger buyer interest over time, and population growth across the Gold Coast is forecast to accelerate in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, adding further momentum to that trend.

We’ve already seen this demand play out at Harbour Shores, with buyer interest spanning multi-million dollar villas through to one-bedroom apartments priced under $1 million. It’s part of why one third of the units in our next release have been set aside specifically for first home buyers, reflecting our commitment to designing homes for every stage of life, not just one segment of the market.

Housing Minister Sam O’Connor and Acting Gold Coast Mayor Mark Hammel have also spoken about the extension as part of a wider conversation, with the Minister noting it will deliver world-class public transport for the very first time to Labrador, Parkwood and Biggera Waters, supporting the thousands of residents set to call Harbour Shores home.
